Grades 1-3

"What is most unique and impressive about Laurel is the fact that they truly recognize and accommodate the needs of each student. Students progress at their own pace in the core academic subjects in an environment that is accepting and encouraging. New students quickly learn to value their uniqueness and to recognize that they may just be better at school than they ever thought they could be. Laurel helps each child shine."

Our smaller class sizes and low student-teacher ratios ensure that children grow and flourish. Our
well-rounded program offers breadth and depth.
  • Top-notch direct instruction programs including Learning Without Tears, Spelling Mastery, Reasoning and Writing, and Singapore Math.
  • French instruction using the renowned AIM gestures program.
  • Music and art classes.
  • Physical education instruction that includes swimming lessons (grades 1 and up) and skating lessons (JK and up).
  • Extra-curricular clubs such as yoga, Lego, karate, dance and more that engage children and build community.
Our program allows students to excel and provides excellent preparation for those who will write entry exams for other schools. For more information on the clubs and activities at Laurel, visit the Clubs and Activities section of our website.

How do we ensure that each child is reaching his/her potential?
When children start at Laurel, we assess their current skills in the core academic subjects -- spelling, reading, writing, and math -- and set up an individualized academic program that meets their needs. Our students are not rushed to compete with others; nor are they held back based on others' skills.
  • We provide a non-competitive, supportive environment with smaller classes and low student-teacher ratios.
  • Our top-notch instructional materials build mastery. We ensure students' skills are built on a solid foundation before moving on.
  • We build study skills, work habits, and helpful routines that ensure success down the road. We meet with parents to discuss student needs and progress regularly.
