Summer Camp Curriculum

How your child spends this summer can make a big difference for the upcoming school year. If your child is not reaching his/her potential, is unchallenged or falling behind, our summer program will make that different.

Why Summer Camp at The Laurel School?

At Laurel Camp’s dynamic community, children develop and strengthen academic skills, express themselves creatively, build friendships, have fun, and enjoy a full range of physical activities and all in one place! This community is built on the cultivation of a deep, lifelong love of learning. Our qualified and specially trained staff are committed to each child's unique academic and character development. Our smaller class sizes create a flexible, responsive learning environment that allows the teacher to address each student's individual needs.

What is Laurel Camp?

Laurel Camp is a camp program within The Laurel School designed to allow students to continue learning academics in the summertime while also having fun with camp activities. It is the perfect balance of fun and academics, keeping your child challenged and ready for the school year.

_________

How Are We Different?

Laurel Camp has the perfect balance of academic learning and camp activities in a fun and dynamic environment. We will provide each student with an individualized program after an educational assessment with our certified educators. Students receive a weekly summary of work completed, and a final report is sent home at the end of his/her session. Extra work is sent home with the student to practice their skills after camp completion. Flexible registration with morning, afternoon, and full-day programming, and registration by individual weeks, are available.

Kindergarten & Senior Kindergarten

  • We jump start school readiness by transitioning your child into kindergarten

  • We provide individualized preschool and kindergarten assessments in language and reading, printing, numbers and math

  • We focus on reading skills, number sense and fine motor development in a fun learning environment

  • Daily reading instruction is provided at your child’s specific level

Kindergarten & Senior Kindergarten Program Includes:

Basic Reading and Phonics

The Laurel School’s own phonics readers are used, one-on one, to build reading skills using a systematic phonics approach. Children read individually with their teacher each day and progress at their own pace.

Phonics

Children use workbooks and other activities to reinforce decoding and encoding skills. This program is intended to work “hand-in-hand” with our readers, and so children are placed according to their level of skills and rate of learning

Mathematics

Using a variety of hands on material and workbooks, students work on activities that will build early math skills. Students are often able to work on grade one or two material at this stage, as they learn simple addition and subtraction.

Using a variety of manipulatives, and the acclaimed Learning Without Tears program, children will participate in activities designed to improve pincer grip and ensure the correct formation of letters and numbers.
